Hershel Recht holds both an Honours Bachelor and Masters Degree from York University in Political Science and International Relations, respectively. He is also a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School’s Certificate of Mediation and holds LL.M program in Alternative Dispute Resolution and International Conflict Resolution, cum laude. Hershel’s main research focused on the effects of Second Track Diplomacy on the Middle East Peace Process and Chinese-Israel-Middle Eastern approaches to political negotiation. Hershel was the 2009 Rotary Club of Canada Award Winner in International Conflict Studies and was asked to teach at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand.

Only its second employee, he was a former Lobbyist and Associate Director for CJPAC, the Canadian Jewish Political Affairs Committee from 2005-2008. Subsequently, he became the Senior Advisor and Operations Director for then, Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Peter Kent. 

In 2010, Hershel and his wife Robin went on to co-found Top-Notch Consulting, an International political and business cross-cultural consulting firm. Shortly after that he was recruited by Technion Canada, the fundraising arm of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology to rebrand the Organization across Canada.

Among his main achievements were spearheading the Young Leadership Initiative Generation NEXT in both Toronto and Montreal and restarted the defunct Alberta Chapter. He also created a new and innovative platform in the area of Planned Giving. Hershel was the architect behind the Technion-Lassonde School of Engineering academic partnerships in Innovation formed in early 2014. He also founded three more major partnerships with other Canadian Universities and Hospitals including Toronto General. 

Since 2018, Hershel has been the first Central Regional Director / National Major Gifts Professional for Canadian Magen David Adom. A partner of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, MDA is Israel’s National Emergency Service and Blood Bank. He has broken every fundraising and other records set over the Organization’s 47-year history including attaining the three largest ever consecutive gifts in a four month time span.

Hershel has personally raised over $65,000,000 and assisted in raising another $30,000,000 for various other charitable pursuits.
